SPARC will have an Aid Station on the run course for the Ironman 70.3 World Championships. Many of you have volunteered for SPARC at other Ironman events and this will be very similar. The main difference is since this is such a big event with people coming in from all over the world it will be a 2 day event. Women will race on Saturday, September 9th and men will race on Sunday, September 10th. There will be 2 shifts on each day (7:30am-12pm and 12pm-5pm).
Some interesting facts about the Ironman 70.3 World Championships:
-The course will be accessible to physically challenged athletes including handcycles and racing chairs so we may see some of these athletes coming through our station.
-Our very own Connie Roberts qualified for the World Championships and will be racing on Saturday, September 9th.
-This is the first time any city has hosted the Ironman 70.3, Ironman 70.3 World Championships, and full Ironman in the same year.
-World's will not be back in Chattanooga in long time(if ever). In 2015 Worlds were held in Austria and then in Australia in 2016. In 2018 they will be in South Africa and in France in 2019.
-These will be the best of the best athletes from ALL OVER THE WORLD. Everyone had to qualify by placing top in their age group at previous races.
-This will be televised and coverage will be available WORLDWIDE.
